A mistake a lot of people make is thinking that a life reset happens after the New Year. This is a crucial task that should be planned and implemented before the New Year.

There’s no better time than to start goals, habits, and change than right now. This way, you go into the New Year already prepared.

So, what does a life reset for the New Year consist of? These actionable tasks can be done right now so you can go into the New Year feeling refreshed and set up for success.

Declutter

Before the new year hits, the first life reset task is to declutter our lives.

There’s a reason why I always tidy up before bed, Because the overwhelm of looking at a mess shortly after I open my eyes is intense. So before the new year hits, let’s declutter everything so we can have a relaxing start to the New Year!

Phone

Let’s declutter our phones!

  • photos /screenshots you haven’t looked at in months
  • organize our photos in folders
  • apps you haven’t used in months
  • contacts you don’t contact anymore

Closet

New year, new wardrobe. I know there are things you haven’t worn at least once in the past 6 months. Out with the old, in with the new.

When you have that bag of clothes, shoes, and accessories that you’re no longer in need of, you can donate them so they go to someone who’d really appreciate them! ♡

Paperwork

This task can be pretty overwhelming — at least for me. Because I feel like in just a year, the amount of paperwork I accumulate is insane. Let’s declutter our:

  • Old appointment letters
  • Receipts
  • Junk mail
  • Any other piece of paper that you no longer have any use for

Reflect

The next part of our life reset is to reflect on the year we had with some prompts. Feel free to write these down. ♡

  • What were at least 5 highlights of 2023 that happened to me?
  • What lessons did I learn this year?
  • What new things did I do this year?
  • What was the biggest risk that I took?
  • Healthy habits that I had this year were…?
  • What word would I use to define this year?

Realistic Goals

After we reflect on the year that we just had, let’s make some goals for next year. But, keep them realistic!

When I make goals for the new year, I like to separate them into different categories: personal, health, finance and work.

If you don’t know where to start, I came up with some prompts to help you figure out your goals!

  • What are 3 short-term goals? (ex. paying off a credit card or completing a course)
  • What are 3 long-term goals? (ex. starting a business or buying a home)
  • What steps do I need to achieve for each goal?
  • Do my priorities align with my goals?
  • What skills do I need to work on for my goals?

Vision Board

One of the things I love to do in my life reset in December to get excited about the new year is create a vision board. You can either do a physical or digital vision board. This year, I’m doing a digital vision board.

Based on my goals for the new year, I like to pick pictures on Pinterest that are relevant to what I want my year to look like.

After I have all the pictures ready, I upload them to Canva! I made two versions of my vision board. One for my desktop and one for my phone background.

Have fun with it!
